Raising Jesus Kids
You’ll see me use the term “Jesus kids” regularly on this site, but what does raising Jesus kids really mean?
Here’s what it’s not.
It isn’t about where you go to church. Denominations, or even home church, don’t determine whether or not your child will follow the Lord. It isn’t about how your kids attend school. Homeschool, public school, and private school can and do all produce faith-filled children, teens, and young adults. It isn’t about which Bible studies you do with them at home, the church activities they attend, or how many times they go to church camp. It isn’t about religion, legalism, or being in church every single Sunday.
It’s just about raising kids who love Jesus.
Simple as that.
To The Word
Our greatest charge as parents is to pour the truth of God’s Word into the hearts of our children (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). We are admonished to train up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). We are to both instruct and teach our children the Word of the Lord (Proverbs 1:8-9). We are to set an example of glorifying God for what He has done in our lives (Joshua 4:20-24).
We can’t save our kids. In the words of my pastor, “You can’t ride my coat tails into heaven.” Salvation and the daily pursuit of Christ are personal decisions that our children must make, but giving them the foundation of God’s truth and allowing them opportunities to experience the Holy Spirit is our responsibility, and it’s one that we must take seriously.
How Do We Raise Jesus Kids?
We read them Scripture.
We teach them how to study Scripture on their own.
We fill their minds with music and media that glorifies the Lord.
We set an example of prayer.
We teach them what to pray, how to pray, and why to pray.
We lead them into situations where they can minister to others.
We help them define and develop their spiritual gifts.
We run alongside them as they pursue their Savior.
This is what I want for my children, and it’s what I want for yours as well. I’m here to help you lay for your children a foundation upon the Rock, Jesus Christ. I will encourage you, equip you, and edify you as we walk this journey of biblical parenthood together. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and draw our children close as we press forward toward Him.
May they never know a day apart from His truth.
Soli deo Gloria,
Abbey
