This Is The Beginning Of A Movement.

It’s kids seeing their mom read the Bible.
It’s moms being filled with hope, joy, peace…daily…all through the living Word of God.
It’s family cultures being pointed towards Christ.
It’s letting God speak through His Word in the midst of your everyday life.

It doesn’t have to be a “quiet time”. In fact, since having kids, I’ve changed my verbiage. I now call it my daily Bible study. That seems like a small change, but it shifts my mindset from expecting it to be quiet. Because it rarely is. I don’t wake up before my kids. I read while the baby is nursing, while the big kids are having screen time, in the middle of the afternoon when everyone is asking me questions, after the kids go to bed…just whenever I have a chance.

To be honest, I usually end up reading in the midst of chaos. I get interrupted a lot. I don’t get to actually “study” the Word a lot of days, as far as using special pens and journaling what I’ve learned; I just read. For this season, that satisfies my heart. God works with us, where we are, with what we have to offer.

Sometimes I read aloud, sometimes to myself. Sometimes my kids want to sit with me, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I finish my study in one sitting, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 tries. Sometimes it even takes a couple of days, and that’s okay. God sees you trying. He sees your heart. And He will meet you where you are – even if it takes 4 or 5 tries to hear what He wants to say.

Mama, read your Bible. It most likely won’t be the picture perfect quiet time. It doesn’t have to be. When Jesus retreated to pray, he was frequently followed. You’ll probably be interrupted. Just try again.

Let’s start today. Grab your Bible or your Bible app. Sit, stand, lie down, on the couch, chair, or in your bed. Wherever you find yourself, God will meet you through His Word. Just read your Bible, mama.

Mama, read your Bible. God wants to speak to you.

What Do I Read?

While we’re talking about it, read JUST your Bible. Make no mistake, there’s a time and place for devotional books, study Bibles, and additional resources. But there is no substitution for the living and active Word of God, and it should make up the majority of your Bible study time.

When I see moms ask for books to read on discipline, encouragement, inspiration, etc., do you know what book I very rarely see recommended?

The Bible.

Do you know what book has all the answers to our mothering questions, all the encouragement for our hard times, all the inspiration for a peaceful life?

The Bible.

It answers every question.
Speaks life to every heart.
Brings peace to every situation.
Touches every life.

Mama, read your Bible. I guarantee you’ll find what you need.

And when you do, snap a picture, tag me (@raisingjesuskids), and use #mamareadyourbible. It’s not about bringing attention to ourselves, but rather showing other moms that they can do it too, even in the midst of their regular, messy, noisy, chaotic lives.

If you don’t know where to begin, grab a copy of What Does Romans Say About Motherhood? on Amazon. Each day, you will read a full chapter in Romans – that is the basis of the study. Then there is a breakdown of a verse/passage in light of motherhood. Finally, you’ll answer some questions to help you go deeper, allowing God to bring each verse to life in a new way, and in just the right way for the season of life that you’re in.

God wants to speak to you. He just needs you to open His Word and listen.

Soli Deo Gloria,
Abbey
